Lakewood Ranch Set for Expansion with Recent Approvals

Lakewood Ranch is poised for significant growth following recent approvals by Sarasota County commissioners. The green light was given for the development of up to 5,000 homes on 4,100 acres west of Verna Road and north of Fruitville Road, an area known as Lakewood Ranch Southeast. This decision includes rezoning over 2,200 acres to a Village Transition Zone, facilitating higher residential density. Despite legal challenges from local residents concerned about preserving the rural character of the area, the Florida Second District Court of Appeal ruled in favor of the development. Schroeder-Manatee Ranch, the developer, plans to invest $200 million in infrastructure improvements, including extending Bourneside Boulevard to Fruitville Road and expanding University Parkway. Home sales in this new section are anticipated to begin by late 2025 or early 2026. For more details, visit the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.
